Basilica of Santa Maria
The Basilica of St. Mary of Krakow is one of the most imposing temples in all of Poland. However, it surprises the asymmetry that we can observe in the two towers of its main facade. While the highest is up to 80 meters high, the smallest is less than seventy. The highest tower, which is the north, was also used as a city watchdog, had reported the various invasions that had ravaged the old capital of Krakow. During the 13th century, a trumpeter warned the population of the imminent Tatar invasion by sounding its instrument. However, an arrow reached his throat and the trumpet player died. In commemoration of this fact, a trumpeter goes up every hour to the northern tower of the Basilica of Santa Maria to play the song that the trumpeter played in that situation. The music is interrupted at the same time as the trumpet player reached by the Tatar arrow.
