Yacimient- Archaeological Museum of Numancia
On the top of the hill known as the Garray Mound, 7 km from the city of Soria, is the Archaeological site of Numancia, a mythical Celtic city that faced the power of Rome between 153 and 133 BC. The land occupied by the site, the Garrejo estate, was donated in its day to Garray by the Viscount of Eza, and the set declared National Monument at the end of the 19th century. Expelled by Schultten in 1908, the successive archaeological works have discovered two cities: one of the oldest of the Celtiberic times and, on it, one of the later of the Roman times, which is located in the structure of the previous one. The wide excavated surface allows you to know its layout with the streets in irregular reticle, without leaving any free spaces or squares. His visit begins at the Reception House, where a video and CD-Rom, with the reconstruction of the history of the city in three dimensions, provide the visitor with the keys necessary to understand the archaeological remains. The wide excavated surface allows to know its layout with the streets in irregular reticle, without leaving free spaces or squares, to avoid the strong and cold wind of the north. Most of the streets are gradually and with a west-east orientation; and their houses are grouped in apples. Archaeological tour Visitors have the option to make a visit accompanied by specialized guides. The promenade shows the aljibes they used to collect the rainwater, the steep streets, two reconstructed houses (one belonging to the Roman period and the other to the celtibera) or the recovered sections of wall. The tour is completed with the Archaeological Hall, in Garray, where the Celtiberic and Roman world is comparatively rebuilt. It has also been recreated at the entrance of Garray, in the area of Alto Real, one of the Roman camps that closed the fence to the city of Celtibera. .
