Makrinitsa

This was an ancient community of Magnesia, which has gradually become part of the municipality of Volos. The tradition is breathed in each of its streets, with ascending layout that shows numerous mansions that seem to be hanging from the rock. It is perhaps these mansions that most draw attention to the tourist who arrives in Makrinitsa. Most of these were made between the 18th and 19th centuries. Almost all three-story and stone-built. They resemble small palaces as many of them have watchtowers, large stairs and defensive turrets. These centenary mansions are separated from each other by streets, a journey in which it will be easy to find sources; for if something abounds in Makrinitsa (in addition to the mansions) these are elements. The most traditional and charming place in the villa is found in an old coffee, housed in one of these lush mansions. In this one, we can see a great fresco made by the very Theophilos. It should also be noted that we will also find some religious buildings of some relevance. For example, the temple of Agios Ioannis, created in 1806 and based on a beautiful stone decoration following the premises of Byzantine architecture. It also highlights the Church of the Panagias, which is the most important of the people built in 1767. In the same enclosure we can visit the temple of Agion Padon and Nicholaos Agios. Although many citizens do not currently live, the fact is that the importance of this place is gradually increasing by the visit of the mansions. During spring and summer it is an authentic gozada to sit on one of its terraces, being able to photograph the landscape that is presented before our eyes.
