Váci Utca
Váci Utca (Váci Street) is the most important street in Budapest along with Andrassy Avenue. This pedestrian street is part of the tourist and commercial heart of Budapest. Váci Street is located parallel to the Danube, between Vörösmarty Square and the Great Central Market. During the Middle Ages the Budapest border was marked by its wall, built on what is today Deák Ferenc utca street. Váci Street led to one of the city's gates in what is today Vörösmarty Square. The construction of Váci Utca began in the 18th century and some of its mansions date back to that time. However, most of the buildings that are preserved today belong to the 19th and 20th centuries. The generational change has also been noticed in business. Previously Váci Utca was frequented by the most well-known in Budapest, while today it has been filled with shopping centers, fashion chains, souvenir shops, hotels, restaurants and cafés. The oldest building in Váci Utca, built in 1805, is located at number 13 of the street. Váci Utca is one of the most elegant shopping streets in Budapest, attractive both in the day with its shops and cafés full of people, as well as at night, illuminating the passage of pedestrians who decide to enjoy a pleasant night walk.
