Horres
The archaeological research carried out in the area of Tarros established that in the 8th century a. C. the city was founded by Phoenicians. The excavations have shown that it existed since the 8th century a. C. until its abandonment in the 10th century, inhabited first by the Phoenicians, then by the Punic civilization and then by the Romans. The city was abandoned under pressure from the incursions of Saracenos invaders. The site was used for centuries later as a building material quarry for neighbouring villages and cities. The area is now an outdoor museum and excavations are still being carried out that bring to light more and more details of the past of this city. What is seen is most of the period of primitive Christianity or Roman domination. Among the structures of interest are the Tofet itself, the bathroom facilities, the temple foundations and a part of the area with houses and craft workshops. Most of the objects are found in the Archaeological Museum in Cagliari, the Antiquarium Arborense, the Archaeological Museum in the city of Cabras and the British Museum, London.
