Greek Theatre of Taormina

It is located on Mount Tauros, a privileged area, since from it you can see in a spectacular way the town of Giardini-Naxos and the Etna volcano. It was built in the Hellenistic era and was almost entirely rebuilt in the times of Roman domination. It was at that time that the compound was used for the practice of gladiator struggle. The theatre consists of nine sections, and is surrounded by a double portico. Originally it had a capacity for about 5,000 spectators, and 109 meters in diameter. They still stand some of the Corinthian columns that were standing on the wall behind the stage.
