Hermitage San Santurio

Hermitage San Santurio

The whole is made up of natural grotto on which a building dedicated to religious use was built. Some rooms are those of the Heros, the rock chapel dedicated to San Miguel. The church is central octagonal. It tells the tradition that in the 6th century the noble Soriano Saturio shared his wealth among the poor and went to live in caves next to the Duero. His memory was lost and, in the last quarter of the 16th century, his remains were found and the devotion to the eremite grew to the point of building a temple in his honor and naming him the patron of the city.
