Skogafoss
In the final section of the Skógá River is Skógafoss, probably the most famous waterfall in Iceland and one of the most beautiful, as it is said to be the "perfect cataract." Skogafoss is 62 meters high and almost 30 meters wide. It is located in an impressive place: the water falls on a bed of black stones that contrast with the emerald green of the slopes surrounding the cataract. This contrast is completely different in winter, when the snow covers all of a wonderful white mantle. The Skogafoss waterfall can be admired both from the bottom, where the water curtain forms a spectacular rainbow on sunny days, as well as from the highest. All those who are encouraged to climb the more than 400 steps will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the southern coast of Iceland and to observe perfectly from a metal balcony how the water falls with fury and without ceasing through the Skogafoss cataract.
