Quattro Canti

The square called "Dei Quattro Canti," in Palermo, is one of the most beautiful examples of "piazza" baroque. The four corners of the palaces that converge at the crossing of the Corso Vitorio Emanuelle II and the Via Maqueda, exemplify, in their desire to glorify the Spanish monarchy, one of the peaks of the Italian baroque urbanism. The first order has four sources representing the four stations while the second one contains the statues of the Spanish kings Charles V, Philip II, Philip III and Philip IV. On the last plane, the statues of the four Santas of Palermo: Oliva, Ágata, Ninfa and Cristina.
