Pile Gate

This door shows the old lift bridge that served to protect access to the walled enclosure; on its outside it is Renaissance style (16th century), and on the inside, Gothic style (15th century). It is the direct access to Stari Grad, the "old city" of Dubrovnik, which suffered intense bombing in the Balkan War, but which is now fully recovered.
