Small Pelion train (Ano Lekhonia Station)
Maybe this is the nicest train in Greece. The service operated between 1897 and 1971. In the 1990s this train recovered as a tourist attraction, although the steam machine that carried its four wagons was replaced by a diesel machine in 2010. At present the service only operates in the 15 km stretch between Ano Lehonia and Mies, but the magic of the journey remains intact. The track, 60 cm wide, is one of the narrowest in the world and the speed at which the train runs, only 20 km / h, allows you to enjoy a pleasant and enveloping route in the heart of one of the most beautiful mountains in Greece. The pristine nature, with thick banana, oak and pine forests, with stone and iron bridges of other times, and spectacular views of the Pagasetic Gulf make this 90-minute journey an absolute delight for lovers of train and nature. The train runs every Saturday and Sunday of the year, and daily during the month of August (it leaves Ano Lehonia at 10: 00 and returns from Milies at 3: 00); in the holiday season and peak times there are extra services. The round-trip ticket costs €18 / 12 for adults / children. .
