Pasaje de las Flores

The passage of the Flowers (Çiçek Pasajı in Turkish) is from those places in Istanbul that move us from time to time, a journey in which the famous avenue İstiklâl (formerly called Grande Rue de Pera) was the cultural and social epicenter of the city, golden times in which the architects did not hesitate to give us immemorial buildings like this beautiful shopping gallery. After the Russian communist revolution, many families of the defeated Tsarist Russia fled to Istanbul and in their desire to find a means of subsistence began to sell flowers on the compound, being such its success that most of the premises were oriented towards this activity, motivating the commercial gallery to begin to be called "Pasaje de las Flores," replacing other historical names of the compound such as Cité de Pera, Hristaki Pasajı, etc. From the mid-40s of the last century, bars and restaurants began to make an act of presence in the building and the florists gradually disappeared, although the passage continued to maintain its floral name. To date the restoration is the main economic activity of the Pasaje, which because of its beauty has become an important pole of tourist attraction, but also an ideal place to enjoy the delights of Turkish cuisine.
