Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Brussels, which rises in front of the Brussels Park and a few metres from the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, is the government seat of the king of Belgium. It was also a real residence, but today the king and his family live in the Royal Castle of Laeken. In front of the Royal Palace is the Parliament of Belgium. The whole of both buildings represents the system of government governing Belgium, the parliamentary monarchy. The construction of the Royal Palace began in the early 19th century at the hands of William I, king of the Netherlands. During the reign of Leopold II the palace suffered many remodeling and remained as can be seen today. .
