Barumi Nuraga
The prehistoric area of Barumi is the most important archaeological site in Sardinia. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, "Su Nuraxi" by Barumi are the most complete and best preserved example of nuragas (prehistoric monument of Sardinia) and a valuable proof of an innovative and imaginative use of materials and techniques available in a prehistoric community. Barumini Nuragic Set with its Nuragas, "Su Nuraxi," shows that this area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. The nuragas were truncated cone-shaped defence towers made of dry rocks and equipped with interior rooms. The nuraga is placed within an enclosure made up of small towers, united by huge walls. Around these buildings was the village with small circular houses. Other rooms for specific domestic or ritual activities can be found. The cabins in the Nuragic village are from the 7th-6th century BC, that is, of the Punic and Roman domination. The outer walls, however, are older and presuppose the settlement of other populations in the Iron Age (between the IX and the VIII century BC) This wall is a modification of an antimural (defence fortress) that includes the oldest sector of the village going back to the Bronze Age, between the 11th and 10th century BC. In Barumi you can not only visit a surveillance tower, which is remarkably old, but you can also walk among the remains of a whole village thousands of years ago. .
