Monastery of Paleokastritsa

One of the most famous monuments in Corfu is the Palaiokastritsa Monastery. It was built in 1225, then destroyed by the Genebrins in 1403 and rebuilt in 1469, so it was destroyed again by the Turks in 1537. However, it was rebuilt again in 1572 and remains open to this day. The monastery is a pole of attraction for many tourists and locals, who come to make a wish by throwing a coin into the well at the main entrance of the monastery. One of the places you should visit is the Monastery Museum, located in the same region to the left of the main entrance. Before you leave, you can take some photos of the Venetian cannon, which is always there to monitor the sea to the north along with Agelokastro, the castle to protect the city from its enemies. The view of the rocks «Ortholithos», «Skeloudi» and «Kolovri» is also impressive. Pass through the trail that will take you to the Cross at the top of the mountain, where the view will satisfy even the most demanding visitor.
