Castle of Arteaga

Castle of Arteaga

This palacio-castle also known as the Empress Eugenia de Montijo Castle, is located in a privileged area of the Urdaibai estuary, not far from the historic town of Guernica. Unlike the Spanish defensive castles, it is not placed in an elevated area, but in a plain or meadow, surrounded by trees and other vegetation. It also resembles the castle of Fontainebleau and other French royal residences. At present it has a hotel and offers the option to stay in any of its excellent rooms and to enjoy an unforgettable gastronomic evening in an environment that has been able to maintain its original features with elegance. It is under the protection of the generic Declaration of the Decree of 22 April 1949 and the Spanish Historical Heritage Act 16 / 1985.

Urdaibai observatories are located in a privileged position for bird observation. From the three observatories you can throw away minutes and hours without noticing.
