Hamsili Pilav (anchovy rice)
Hamsili pilov is a visually attractive Turkish dish of baked rice that is locked in anchovy. The pilov is usually prepared with long grain rice, onions, raisins, pineapples, mint, lemon juice and spices. To prepare hamsili pilov, a baking dish is first attached with butter and then covered with anchovies to fill the whole bowl. The rice pilov is placed on the anchovy and then the ends of the anchovy are folded to the center of the bowl so that the rice is fully covered. After the baking process, the dish is usually turned around and served with eneldo branches and lemon slices. The original recipe is believed to have its origin in the Laz, an ethnic minority in northeastern Turkey.
