St. John's. George Terminal

St. John's. George Terminal is the southern terminal of the Staten Island ferry; it only reaches Whitehall Terminal, on the southern end of Manhattan, near Battery Park. The Staten Island ferry offers a 24-hour service between the terminals. Ferries usually operate at intervals of 15 to 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes in other hours.

Whitehall Terminal

Whitehall Terminal

The Whitehall terminal was originally opened in 1903 as a new transport center for the Staten Island ferry, which was in the process of being acquired by the city government. It was renewed from 1953 to 1956 at a cost of $3 million, but in the 1980s, it was in a state of deterioration. The Whitehall terminal was burned in a fire in 1991, and was completely rebuilt and rededicated in February 2005 as an important integrated transport centre.

The famous free ferry going to Staten island is the way many tourists use to see the statue of freedom from nearby without paying money or also to give you a pretty nice boat ride through New York for free.
