Eldheimar

In this small museum, a house is exhibited, in its original situation, half-ruined by the weight of the ashes, as well as a small history of the family that inhabited it. There are also information panels on the 1973 eruption, its background, its evolution and how they faced it (including the irrigation of the lava with marine water, to prevent it from covering the entire population and the entrance to the port). On the upper floor, there is also a small exhibition about the emergence of the island of Surtsey, which is visible from the top of the volcano on clear days.
