Brussels Cathedral

The Cathedral of San Miguel and Santa Gúdula (Cathédrale Saint-Michel et Sainte-Gudule) is one of the most emblematic buildings in the city of Brussels. Its construction, in a Gothic style, began in the early 13th century on a Romanesque construction of the 11th century and was not completed until two centuries later. Its conservation status is very good since, between 1983 and 1989, it was subjected to a major restoration. Located on the right of the central ship, a beautiful baroque pulpit carved in wood in 1699, in addition to the original 17th-century oak confessionaries, the huge statues located on the columns and some perfectly made and preserved glass windows, is striking. The "Treasure" of the cathedral is located in the Chapel of the Most Holy Sacrament, zealously kept by an 18th-century forged iron porch. In the interior there are many liturgical and religious objects, such as some tunics, crosses, relics, chalices, several altarpieces and sculptures. The chapel features several windows, longer than the rest of the cathedral, dating from 1540. A detail, which is not unnoticed in the cathedral, is the imposing organ Grenzing with more than 4,000 tubes and 4 keyboards. .
