Cathedral - Basilica of the Assumption of Mondoñedo

In Mondoñedo everything happens around its Cathedral, one of the most special religious temples in all Galicia and declared World Heritage by Unesco. There their neighbors are used to contemplating daily the one known as "the Cathedral on their knees," because of its low height and perfect proportions. In addition to its history and beauty, the Cathedral is famous for hosting several religious pieces and collections of unspeakable value. In fact, the museum inside it, the Cathedral Museum of Sacred Art, is one of the most important in Galicia. After crossing the doorway of the Cathedral of Mondoñedo, it surprises the beauty of its interior. The current building is divided into three ships, but the first thing that jumps in sight are the roof polychrome, the huge organs - made in 1715 - and the impressive roseton - of Gothic style and a diameter of five meters - that crown the temple. Finally, in the girola, the back of the altarpiece, is the altar of relics and four chapels that had verges until the French Revolution. As a curiosity, in the chapel on the right, we can observe an English virgin of 1955 from the Cathedral of St. Paul in London. The persecution of Catholics by Henry VIII brought her to Galicia. .
