Castelo dos Mouros

Located on the Sierra de Sintra, Castelo Dos Mouros is located next to the Palacio da Pena and offers great views - we note that by its altitude, the wind blows with quite a lot of strength. Elegated by the Arabs during the 8th and 9th centuries as a defensive enclave - to monitor the land roads that linked Sintra to Lisbon, Cascais and Mafra - and conquered in the 12th century by the Christians of Dom Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, still retains two Roman gates and some frescoes of the ancient medieval necropolis.
