Flag's Alcornoque
![]() Flag's AlcornoqueAn example of Alcornoque (Quercus Suber), 11 meters high, 14 meters high, and two trunks, with a perimeter of 2.15mts and 1.95mts respectively, to which an age of 400 to 500 years is attributed. It is beautifully embedded in a granite mole. Its peculiarity lies in the way its roots are tied into the rock, as it desperately seeks a source of sustenance and moisture. No one knows how he could survive in this precarious situation. The difficult access to the rock that houses this specimen has been a determining factor for its conservation, since it has allowed it to remain relatively on the sidelines of bandits, thugs, labrarians or pastors who for centuries have wandered all over La Pedriza, and especially, already in closer times, of disrespectful dominoes. Once a beautiful meadow is crossed in its central part by a great song, the demolating presence of the "Peña del Indio" will mark you the place to which you will have to address in order to find the unique alcornoque. |

![]() Mountain CabasThe native species of goat was extinct between the late 19th and early 20th century but at the end of the 20th century a repopulation was made with goats brought from other saws. Currently, the population has grown a lot, partly due to the absence of natural enemies, such as the wolf, etc. In other times, the population of wolves in La Pedriza was abundant but from the Civil War the trace of the presence of the wolf is completely lost. |

The name of the hiking route comes from a legend that this tree was used by a well-known bandit in the 19th century, Pablo Santos, called the Bandit of La Pedriza, as a shelter and to hide the loot from his robberies. The path is low and the difficulty is low. We can do it in about two hours. The route runs through the area called the Alcornocal. There was a time when the tree that prevailed in this area was the Alcornoque, hence the name of that part of La Pedriza. Most of the alcornoques were cut off and replaced by pine trees, but there are still some copies distributed by La Pedriza.
