Albura Kathysma
In the early 1990s, a Greek family renewed a lovely Ottoman house and opened Albura in the cobbled streets of Akbıyık Caddesi. Quality attracted locals and travelers, making Albura one of the most popular restaurants in Sultanahmet. The chef's specialties include jumbo shrimp to wok and cevizli kuzu (lamb with nuts). You can choose to have dinner inside the cozy Ottoman home or on the elegant terrace by the street, outdoors in summer and closed in winter. At the end you can walk to the back of the terrace and find the entrance to one of Istanbul's best kept secrets: the well-preserved Byzantine ruins of the Magaura Palace. Take your time to explore this structure similar to an IV-century basilica that inspired the design of the Kremlin Palace of Moscow and the Basilica of St. Mark of Venice. At its peak, the palace was decorated in gold and silver, providing a great stage for the Byzantine emperors to welcome the dignitaries to Constantinople.
