Delicious meatballs in a rich tomato sauce This dish is native to Smyrna (now Izmir) in Turkey, hence the inclusion of the cumin. The Turkish word for meatballs is Kofte, which is why these meatballs are not usually round, but oblong, very similar to modern kofta.
