Achilleion

The Achilleion or Aquillion is a palace turned into a tourist enclave, was built between 1890 and 1892 by the Italian architect Rafael Carita by order of the famous Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, Isabel de Bavaria, better known as Sissi. Sisi also bought all adjacent properties to the sea to ensure their access to the property from the sea by sailing by boat, creating what is now the Achilleion forest of about 8 hectares. Sisi used to visit Achilleion twice a year until 1898, the day she was killed. His daughter Maria Valeria inherited the palace and sold it to the German Kaiser William II, who made several changes. During World War I, the palace served as a military hospital for French and Serbian troops. At the end of the war with the defeat of Germany, the Achilleion palace passed to the Greek State by the Treaty of Versailles. .
