Clock Tower

The clock tower is one of the most emblematic constructions of Ponferrada, giving access to the City Hall square. It is located on the street of the Clock, which connects the Plaza Mayor with the Plaza de la Encina (where the Basilica is located). This tower was built on the Era gate, one of the access doors to the city of the medieval wall. The current tower is Renaissance, made of stone with slate cover and consists of three bodies, the last one is the famous watch that gives it name as well as a bell. The primitive mechanism of this watch is displayed at the Bierzo Museum. .
