Santa Cave de Covadonga

The Santa Cave is one of the most photographed places in Asturias, a spectacular place, look at it where you look at it. It is composed of the chapel built on the rock, where the image of the Virgin of Covadonga is found: the Santina. A waterfall that runs under it, between the rock and that pour the water into a pond in which visitors throw coins to ask for wishes. To the left is the source of the seven-year-old, in which they say that if "the housewives" drink of their seven-year-old, they are married the following year. And to the right the great 101-step step, that some pilgrims go up on their knees to make their offering to Santina. You can access the hermitage by climbing the stairs or also continuing the road, from the explanade where the Basilica is located. The side access is through a long cave, from which the name Covadonga derives: cova-longa.
