San Michele de Murato

This beautiful church, one of the architectural jewels of Nebbio, rises majestic on a meadow that dominates the valley of Saint-Florent and the 'desert' of Agriates, surrounded by rocky hills. In addition to its sumptuous frame, this small Roman building with a Pisano style is influenced by its poly, its pure lines and the beauty of the simple sculptures that decorate the outside. The bicolor facade (the white calcareous stone comes from Saint- Florent, the green serpentine of the U Bevincu river bed) has a unique arrangement, in which horizontal stripes monochromes happen to an irregular damp. Legend says it was built in one night. It is known that it was erected around 1140, restored in Baroque style and visited by Prosper Mérimée, who described it and drew sketches of it. Outside the season you have to order the keys in the city hall if you want to see the frescoes inside.
