Maspalomas dunes

The dunes of Maspalomas is a unique natural space in the Canary Islands for its beauty and the variety of ecosystems it houses. Protected by the Government of the Canary Islands as a special nature reserve, its 400 hectares include an excellent beach, a field of live organic sand dunes, a palm forest and a saloon lagoon. This mixture of desert and oasis is located on the coast of the southern end of Gran Canaria and is surrounded by the famous hotel establishments of the great tourist centre of Maspalomas.

Playa del Veril

Playa del Veril

Close to the urbanization of San Bartolom de Tirajana is the spacious but soft beach area of El Veril. With views of the nearby restaurants, the shopping area and the promenade of Paseo Costa Canaria, you can access the beach from multiple relatively steep walkways, either from the promenade itself or from the direct access of the nearby hotels. The beach is protected from the winds and excessive waves by artificial banks from time to time, which makes the sections feel like separate beaches in their own right, unless seen from the Paseo above. The waters are generally clean with good visibility to dive in the generally cloudy waters that are full of fish and crustaceans and are the playground for local wild birds. The beach is a very good stop for a few hours or all day, especially if you plan to go to one of the restaurants upstairs. As with many of the beaches of Canarias, it is worth arriving early or later, with special attention to late hours if you are looking for a bargain in terms of beach space and offers for late lunch.
