Nuraga Palmavera

The Nuragic Palmavera complex is an archaeological site located on the outskirts of the city of Alghero. It is classified as "complex" Nuraghe, because it consists of several towers united with each other. From its first phase (XV-XIV BC centuries) is the main tower that preserves the central chamber covered with calcareous stone. The tower is archaic, with no side entrance passages and only outlined on the walls of the main chamber. In the second phase (first half of the 9th century BC), a second tower and sandstone blocks were added. The two towers communicate through a courtyard and a corridor with niches. They also made the meeting room, equipped with a stone seat running along the perimeter. In the center of the cabin on a circular altar, there is a model of a tower of a nuragic sandstone (the original is in the National Archaeological Museum). In its third phase (IX-VIII century BC) the Nuraghe was redone with limestone blocks and a wall with four towers, cassettes, was built around the nuraghe. In one of the courtyards the meeting cabin was inserted and in the outer courtyard are the mouth of the underground silos.
