No. Give me the Garde

This Roman-Byzantine building was started by the architect Henri- Jacques Espérandieu in 1853, coinciding with the time of the Second Empire. For this purpose, materials were used that were brought ex profess from Italy. Located at the highest point in Marseille, on the street of Fort du Sanctuaire, the temple is also popularly known with the nickname of the Bonne Mère ('Good Mother'). This is due to the solemn image that presides over its interior: a statue of the Virgin Mary, 9 m high, to which it is considered a protector of the sailors on the high seas. In turn, from this basilica you can enjoy an unbeatable view of the city and the bay, even the Frioul islands in the distance.
