Museum of Bierzo
One of the most interesting visits of Ponferrada is the Bierzo Museum, which is located in the historic centre (upper area), between the Plaza and Basilica of the Encina and the Plaza Mayor, next to the Clock tower. The rehabilitated building where it is located has its history, as it was a full room of the Consistory, the prison of the villa and the house of the corridor, although its exterior aspect does not say much, is a stone house typical of the area, with balconies and forging rails; dates from the 16th century. After paying for the €3 entry, we find a central cloister, around which the different rooms that make up the exhibition are held in two heights. The super-cool cloister, and it is covered with polycarbonate plates, through which you could see the emblematic clock tower. The exhibition focuses on the history of the region of Bierzo. The ground floor is dedicated to prehistory, first settlements, the castrense culture... And the first one is more oriented to the process of civilization and ethnography since the 15th century. There is a beautiful room dedicated to the gold exploitation of Las Médales, with huge murals, explanations and photographs. And if not, another one dedicated to the Temple Castle. It is surprising to see the first mechanism that the clock of the tower had, for it seemed immense to me and I do not see how it could fit there. In short, a very interesting museum that brings us closer to the history and culture of this Latvian region, which is worth visiting.
