Marina Grande
Marina Grande is a traditional and coquet fishing port located under the limestone cliffs in which the old town of Sorrento is located. Apart from the traffic of the city's streets, this sheltered bay enjoys a much quieter pace of life. Come take a bath or watch the local fishermen in the middle of the job. Despite its name, Marina Grande is actually the smallest port of the two of Sorrento and also the oldest. In the past, a great stone wall was erected between the city and the artisans and nobles who came to Sorrento by sea. Despite this fortification, the Turkish pirates invaded Sorrento in 1558 and looted it. Most of the wall of the old city is no longer there, but its door and the reinforced stronghold di Parsano are still kept standing. Enjoy an outdoor breakfast, food or dinner in one of the restaurants next to the port, and then walk along the coast to enjoy the views. The fishing boats come and go, so there's always something to see. One of the most beautiful moments to come here is at sunset, when fishermen clean their nets and water their wooden ships. From here, the wide views of Naples Bay are also splendid at sunset.
