Manneken Pis
The bronze statuette made in the 17th century by Jeremy Duquensnoy in exchange for 30 ducats, perfectly embodies the rebellious spirit of the Bruberians. In its day, the Manneken Pis was an additional source of water to Brussels. However, to date, it has ceased to be a simple figure to become the symbol of Brussels and to acquire the rank of legendary. In 1745 he suffered the first theft by the English and two years later it would be the French who would repeat this act. The original Renaissance statue has been under protection in the city hall since 1965, after suffering two very close robberies and the figure suffered several damage. The first in 1963 by a group of young people from Antwerp and two years later would disappear until it was found by chance a year later on the Brussels channel. It seems that the adventures of the meon child are over, the current one in the rue L'Eteno is a replica of the original.
