La Martorana
Also known as Santa Maria del 'Ammitaglio, it opens from 9: 30 to 13 and from 15: 30 to 17: 30 with free entrance, this Norman church was raised in 1143 by Giorgio de Antioch, Admiral of Roger II. The original normal forms were modified in the XVI-XVII centuries, when the baroque facade is added and the planiometry is changed. Through the elegant four-storey bell-portico with geminated windows and delicate ornate columns (12th century) we access the interior, clearly divided into two parts, a primgeny, with the decorated ceilings of Byzantine mosaics (before those of the Palatine Chapel and richer), and another with two ships, added in the XVII, with frescoes of Borrezis XVIII. The church is currently used as a center of worship for the Greek Orthodox rite.
