La Citadelle

From the southern dock of the old port you can reach the citadel taking the steps of the Rampe Saint- Charles through the Jardin Romieu, a peace shelter of Mediterranean essence. He goes in the Place du Donjon. Immediately on the right is the Gouverneurs Palace, which hosts the Musée d'Histoire de Bastia. The museum reviews the history of the city. The citadel also houses two remarkable religious buildings: the splendid cathedral of Sainte- Marie, with its imposing yellow and white façade, and the church of Sainte- Croix, which deserves a visit for its proud roof and its black Christ. It also highlights the elegant atrium of green and white pebbles.
