Kenrokuen

Considered one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, the Kenrokuen garden is a must-see place in Kanazawa. The name Kenrokuen means "garden with six elements," and are the attributes that show the impressive beauty of the garden: amplitude, tranquility, artefacts, antiquity, water sources and magnificent views. Kenrokuen is a beautiful Japanese garden with an area of 11.4 hectares and is located on a hill in the centre of Kanazawa and near the castle of Kanazawa. The Maeda family, which reigned the Kaga domain (the current prefectures of Ishikawa and Toyama) in feudal times, maintained the garden from generation to generation. Because of its size and beauty, it is considered one of the most representative gardens of feudal lords in Japan.
