Kadriorg

Kadriorg Park is an area of 173 acres that was built in 1718 under the orders of the Russian Tsar Peter I, with additional sections designed and created over the last centuries. Inside the park is the Kadriorg Palace, which was originally built as a summer house for the Tsar and his family and now serves as a presidential palace and a branch of the Estonian Art Museum. While the palace was being built, Peter I, also known as Peter the Great, lived in a cabin on the property, which is now a museum. The rooms are furnished with elements from that time and are also displayed some of their personal belongings. The area close to the flower massif surrounding the swan pond, as well as the walk that leads from the pond to the palace, are popular routes to walk through the park. There is also a newly added Japanese garden designed with plants that were chosen to adapt to the coldest climate in Estonia. Within the park, there are also several museums, including the KUMU (the Estonian Art Museum), the Kadriorg Art Museum, the Mikkel Museum and the Eduard Vilde Museum. You will also find several monuments, each dedicated to cultural figures such as the sculptor Amandus Adamson, the author FR Kreutzwald and the artist Jaan Koort.
