il Giardini di Villa Melzi

The gardens of Villa Melzi extend along the shore of Lake Como. This architectural complex was made between 1808 and 1810 by Francesco Melzi d'Eril (1753-1816), Duke of Lodi, Vice President of the Italian Republic with Napoleon and later Grand Chancellor of the Italian Kingdom. The English-style gardens, embellished with sculptures, were designed by the architect Luigi Canonica and by the botanist Luigi Villoresi. Through the contribution of renowned artists and technicians and thanks to the special tuning established with Francesco Melzi, this whole set is a place of a rare harmony that was admired, among others, by Stendhal who described his beauty in "Rome, Naples, Florence" written in 1817.
