Church of Saint Spyridon

Religious temple of the Greek Orthodox rite built in 1590 that constitutes the main spiritual center of the island. It is recognizable from any point in the city for its stylized 40-meter-high bell tower topped with a red dome, the tallest of all the Ionian Islands. Its interior houses a coffered ceiling ornamented with baroque-style frescoes of Italian influence and houses, within a luxurious silver and gold sarcophagus, the intact relics of the patron saint of Corfu, Saint Spyridion.
