Church of Our Lady of the Rocks

This islita is artificial and has 3030 square meters of surface. It all started as a simple pile of rocks, but when in 1452 two fishermen found an image of the Virgin Mary began the construction of a small chapel on those rocks. When the Venetian arrived in the 17th century they built a Catholic chapel where the Orthodox was first raised and decided to expand the thing. Thus, they began to bring more and more rocks from the land and shaped the island of Our Lady of the Rocks where the church was built in the end. It was the custom to gather stones and so, every July 22, the citizens of Perast arrive with boats and throw their own. The church dates from 1722 and contains an icon of the Virgin Mary of the 15th century. Next to it is a museum dedicated to the history of Perast.
