Hermitage of San FrutosThe hermitage of San Frutos is one of the most idyllic places in Segovia for two reasons, first because it is a beautiful building of the 12th century that was built on an earlier one of the Visiotic style, specifically dated in the 7th century, and on the other hand, because it is located in one of the most beautiful landscape enclaves in the entire province, next to the natural park of the Hoes of the Duraton River. The hermitage of San Frutos is located just in the highest part of one of the meandros that form the hues of the Duraton, on a beautiful cliff that gives the place a striking touch, as it seems to be isolated from everything except nature. The hermitage is not intact but has been subjected to several restoration processes and the walls that are preserved from the place are impolutated. Today what can be done is to contemplate the remains of this beautiful building while walking through a careful garden. Just before entering the hermitage there is an immense and spectacular cross that is above a stone and from which one can see one of the best views of the hues of the Duraton. In addition, there are always vultures and other birds in this area, so the place is spectacular. |

The Natural Park of the Hoes of the Duraton River is a place of extraordinary beauty and visual strength for its unique orography and landscape. An environment that has a certain resemblance to other corners such as the Lobos River Canyon, but has its unique identity sign for the historical-artistic and archaeological heritage it houses. A clear example of the heritage wealth is found in the hermitage of San Frutos, a place of pilgrimage, located on one of the meandros of the river, which was an ancient monastic convent where San Frutos - the patron of Segovius - lived along with his brothers. The hermitage, as well as the remains of the old priory surrounding it and the visigoda necropolis next to it, are of must visit. There is a parking lot very close, 1 km away, from which part a simple interpretative path that is completed in just 15-20 minutes. In addition, this route gives the visitor one of the best panoramic views of the river's channel by the canyon thanks to a strategic lookout. Located in the north-east of Segovia, and a few kilometres from the picturesque Sepúlveda, the protected space includes the middle area of the Duraton River. A stretch in which its waters twist between the walls of a deep canyon that reaches up to 100 meters of dizzy level. A spectacular scenario that overcomes every day, and majestic, the different specimens of leonate vulture, royal eagles and pilgrims hawks that inhabit their rocky pharallions. The path is low, practically flat. On the way we can discover some of the most remarkable areas of the Natural Park of the Hoes of the Duraton River, as well as delight in the sight of birds. There are many species flying over the area. A journey that takes place at all times on the river side, in which high limestone cuts, great fleshly fleshly, patiently carved by water for millions of years and remains of the agricultural activity that took place in this area in other times. There are also three sources that meet the walker: the Hontanilla, the Redonda fountain and the Chorlito fountain; all of them are untreated but perfect for refreshing in the hottest days. .
