Cave of Santimamiñe

The composition of the Santimamiñe cave is of great beauty. It has a length of 365 meters that could be visited before the closing of the public in 2006, and there are abundant calcic formations with an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites that come to form curious figures. The Department of Culture of the Foral Diputación de Vizcaya with the implementation of the Cultural Project "Santimamiñe, a millennial landscape," in which a virtual 3D access takes place in a space prepared for this purpose in the hermitage of San Mamés. Visitors, through special glasses, enter a walk through the cave in which they receive explanations in different languages. The reconstruction is done thanks to a previous work of scanning the cave and taking high-definition digital photographs, from which a complete three-dimensional model of the entire space has been obtained.
