Christ of the Oterus

It is certainly one of the icons most loved by the palentines, visible from many parts of the city. It weighs 392 tons and was built in just 8 months. The first stone was placed on June 15, 1930 and the work was completed in February 1931. As a curiosity, the redeemer Christ of Rio de Janeiro opened that same year. His 21 meters make him the highest Christ in Spain and one of the highest in the world, he has the signature of the great palentine sculptor Victorio Macho (1887- 1966), who, after recognizing his most important work, was buried in the crypt of the hermitage of Santa Maria del Otero, excavated at the foot of the size.
