Convent Cemetery of the Clarisas
In the Cemetery of the Clare Monks you can see the remains of a horrific tradition. When a nun died, her body was placed in a stone chair with a hole. The bodies were slowly decomposing and the liquids were collected in special containers under the seats. Finally, the dry skeletons were taken to an osary. This practical macabra was based on the need to highlight the inutility of the body as a simple container of the spirit. Every day, the nuns visited the "chairs of death" to pray and meditate. This caused them to get sick in the unhealthy place where they spent long hours. The stone seats of the Clarisas cemetery can still be visited at stop No. 6 when exploring the Aragonese castle.
