Devin Castle

Visiting Devin Castle will be one of the best experiences if we visit Bratislava. Its ruins are the memory of a troubled and busy past. Its surroundings will allow us to enjoy a most pleasant walk and views that leave no one indifferent. The interest in visiting this castle must not only be in contemplating the fortress, but also in enjoying its magnificent surroundings. This is one of the most important archaeological sites in Slovakia and a place full of history. Because of its situation and altitude, the fortress had a strategic situation rather than a good one. From its top it is possible to see the confluence between the Danube River and the Morava River, so it also served to control any movement well. Although it is not known for certain, it is said that the castle was founded in the eighth century, as it played a very important role during the continuing wars between France and Moldova. Some archaeological remains even tell us that this place was already inhabited during the Neolithic and that civilizations like Celtic and Roman used it to control the flow of trade on the Danube. The most direct bus to arrive is number 29, with a frequency of approximately one hour, but there is also another option that is to take the bus number 28. The latter happens more often but leaves you a little further from the castle. However, it is a very good option considering that the walk to the castle is most pleasant and that the views will be magnificent at all times.
