Corinth Channel
Although today there are more spectacular channels, such as Suez's, the Corinth channel is perhaps one of the most spectacular engineering works in the world, not only because of its beauty and size but also because of its impressive and millennia history, and is that for almost three thousand emperors and generals have dreamed of achieving it by failing the magnitude of the work. The channel is excavated on the rock of the isthmus of Corinth at the end of the 19th century, and has a height of more than 40 meters and an extension of 6.3 kilometres in length due to which it effectively manages to cut a country in two by separating the Greek region of the Peloponese from the Hélade, continental Greece. At the time of its completion, in 1893, it brought a great economic benefit to the region, as it created a maritime road between the waters of the Gulf of Corinth and those of the Aegean Sea thus saving the merchant ships of having to make a journey of more than 400 kilometres to cover these two areas.
