Ca'd'Oro

Ca'd'Oro is one of the most remarkable palaces in Venice. This is a very peculiar work because in its forms and elements it shows the passage between the Gothic period and the Renaissance, achieving a style that was very imitated later. Its construction began in 1442, so its style would enter the late Gothic. It has three floors, with a marble façade where the marble traceries on the first and second floors stand out. The asymmetry of the facade, something atypical in the architecture of the Venetian palaces, is striking. He sent him to build the noble procurator San Marcos Marino Contarini. However, he went through several owners until he was acquired by Baron Giorgio Franchetti in 1894. Finally, the palace was donated to the Italian State in 1916. Today, it houses the Gallery of Giorgio Franchetti, with important works of art. .
