Begijnhof
It is a beatitude that dates back to the 13th century, when the Countess of Flanders ordered the construction of the houses to house the Beginns, as it was called the widows and orphans of the Crusaders, who concentrated on these communities or beginages dedicated to caring for the homeless, to the embroidery of lace - so typical of the Netherlands - and to prayer, but without belonging to any religious order and without any kind of male custody (which would result in successive conflicts with the Church in the following centuries).
